First to be crossed off my food bucket list is number 8. Humboldt Fog.
Humboldt Fog is a goat milk cheese that a friend of mine said is a MUST have. I tracked it down at Fresh Market.
My daughter and I went for an outing. If you have a fresh market in your area I highly recommend you try it. At mine you enter through the floral section. It is cool and dark with soft music playing. You then come upon all sorts of fresh specialty vegetables to the right and fragrant coffees to the left. There are samples all throughout the store. My daughter loves to taste the fresh, hot apple cider and on Saturday they had a variety of cheese, cracker and wine samples of which I had to partake, of course.
Back to the cheese.
The website describes it as creamy with a subtle tangy flavor. There is a layer of edible vegetable ash that runs down the center.
My take?
The texture was indeed creamy and I was surprised by the taste. I thought it tasted more like a bleu cheese than what I expected for a milder, smooth goat milk cheese. The flavor was complex and I think it would be great with some walnuts and steak with a balsamic sauce.

I love Humboldt Fog! Yum! Great picture.
You've been sweet potato crazy over here Dawn! I just scrolled through your posts. I adore sweet potatoes and saved your hummus recipe.

I've never heard of Humbolt Fog before, I'll have to keep my eye out for it. I love strong cheese like blue.
That supermarket sounds fab, we are so lacking where I live. Don't even have a Wholefoods nearby. Supposedly we are getting a Wegman's next year (if you're familiar, I call these "Wholefoods on steriods" - because they are just that much better!) I can't wait.
Wegmans sounds good to me! We are really lucky here to have our wonderful local natural food store, Native Sun as well as Whole Foods AND Fresh Market!
