Sunday night, Hurricane Irma rolled through my quiet, oak lined street like a freight train. She toppled oaks and brought flood waters to my next door neighbor’s back door overlooking the St Johns River. They even had a manatee munching on grass in their back yard. Though their boat dock barely survived Hurricane Matthew, just short of eleven months ago, this time it was not so lucky – the boat lifts are demolished. Luckily the boats were not on the water and not a thing happened to our own house.

 

Real food.

 

By Monday morning we were, not only powerless, but scared to drive due to downed power lines. We were able to make it out and take a look at the wreckage first hand. Our main road was littered with huge oaks, as if they were tiny saplings crushed underfoot. Exhausted and hungry, I started dreaming about a nice bowl of soup with real veggies, or some black bean burgers with sautéed tomatoes mushrooms. Real food.

We aren’t expecting power back for up to three weeks, so we’re bunking in with family. Life is so crazy right now, I just can’t think – even to search for recipes to make while staying at my in-laws. For anyone else going through the same thing, or even if you’ve just got a busy week ahead, this post is for you – our top ten plant-based recipes, all in one place, so you don’t have to search.

    So much yummy REAL food to support the body and mind all the time, but especially in stressful times like a natural disaster. I’ve tried quite a few of these recipes and they’re delicious!
