Ginger-Lime Kombucha Mule with a Kick

A refreshing non-alcoholic beverage, spicy-sweet, Ginger-Lime Kombucha Mule with a Kick.

Ready for a refreshing headache, nausea and insomnia-free summer beverage? This alcohol-free drink is perfect for the nights I don’t feel like being hung over the following two days.

In fact, we might say this drink could be semi-good for us.

Let’s talk about benefits of ginger. I found all this interesting info over at

  1. It helps when our stomach feels like we guzzled battery acid.
  2. It’s a great pain reliever. In fact 1/4 – 1/2 tsp per day day of powdered ginger can work just as well as ibuprofen on pain, without the risk of damage to the intestinal lining.
  3. Have a migraine? Try powdered ginger – it can kick the pain – cheaply, easily and safely. In fact, 1/8 tsp can work as well as the migraine headache drug sumatriptan (Imitrex) without the side effects.

Over the years I’ve heard mixed reviews. I’ve both brewed my own kombucha when I was convinced it was a treasure trove of probiotics, and I’ve been told that the probiotic benefits are limited unless it’s fortified. Regardless, there’s a huge scoby hotel in my fridge if anyone wants one.

I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not necessarily the wonder beverage we may have all thought it to be, and it is on the acidic side, but it’s a refreshing substitution for the vodka in a Moscow Mule.  To me it’s super-yummy. It does have a trace of alcohol, so if you’re a recovering alcoholic, substitute club soda for the kombucha.

Ginger Beer

Ginger beer is not actually beer – think of it like root beer. But watch out!  There are tons of versions with high fructose corn syrup – which no doubt is GMO.  It’s slightly sweet, and the Main Root brand is fabulous and has an awesome kick.  The Fever Tree is a tad more mellow but still has great flavor.  Whichever you choose, I think you’ll enjoy!
